Where Are We?

Coaching in the Sun is located in the Almanzora valley in Northern Almería. The local hamlets are Los Guillenes and Aljambra (or Alijambra as Google Earth would have it) and the nearest town is under 10 minutes drive away. We enjoy unrivalled peace and tranquillity. The occasional farmer looking after his nearby almond or olive trees are as urban as we get and, at 530m (1720ft) above sea level, the landscape just goes on for ever.

Situated in one of the driest regions of Spain, Aljambra enjoys the sunny warm climate you would expect in Southern Spain. Summer starts early and goes on late into the year. Even the days in December and January can be lovely and warm, unlike the cold days further north. With the exception of July and August when temperatures can reach into the mid 30s, much of the year is like a beautiful summer’s day in the UK.

The Almanzora Valley, which is known for its marble production, stretches far inland from the coast and is squeezed between the Sierra de Los Filabres to the south and the Sierra de Las Estancias to the North. The valley runs east to west and has good road links to the motorway. We are only an hour from Almería airport, 75 minutes from Murcia airport and 2 hours from both Alicante and Granada airports. To the south west the high mountains of the Sierra de Los Filabres act as a backdrop to the Almanzora valley. At times the snow covered peaks offer a glimpse of “winter”. Due to our height above sea level and rural location the heat of the day is often tempered by afternoon and evening breezes.

In the local town you can choose to mix with other English speaking people or mingle with the Spanish. There are numerous places to eat, such as Tapas bars, Spanish cafes and restaurants. However if you want something more akin to home there are British style pubs and bars to visit.

Parking could not be easier as it is traditional just to park in the “Rambla”- the dry river bed. It may seem strange but once you see everyone doing it you will follow and take your place. Of course if it does rain heavily it may not be so dry but this is unusual.

All in all our location offers access to a region where there is a vast range of scenery to explore as well as beaches, historic towns and villages.
